Community Ownership: Programs are sustainable because they are directed by the communities themselves using local resources and appropriate technologies. Integration: Programs promote the well-being of the whole person - physically, spiritually, mentally, and socially. Communities are les in the process of transformation by mature leadership. Development: People are responsible participants in their own development rather than passive recipients of handouts. Programs build capacity instead of creating dependency. Teaching is done in a participatory way that involves learners in a process of self-discovery that leads to action. Disease Prevention: People gain health and vitality through access to clean water, good nutrition, sanitation, hygiene, and immunization. Multiplication: Programs multiply from home to home and community to community as people share what they have learned using transferable concepts and culturally appropriate teaching materials. © CDC2005 |
